Is Backhome microchip a tracker?

No. If a lost pet is found and taken to a vet or SPCA, the pet will be scanned and the vet or spca will use the Backhome database to reunite the pet with its owner.

Are there costs associated with hosting my file (personal & pet details) in the Backhome database?

No, after the initial payment to the vet to implant the Backhome microchip, your pet’s data will remain in the Backhome database at no charge for the life of the pet.

What happens if a pet owner moves overseas or the animal is exported?

The pet will have to be re-registered in the backhome data base of the country of new residence.

If an animal is lost or stolen, can it be re-registerd by someone else?

No, before implanting a microchip, the vet will check that the pet is not already implanted.

For a change of ownership in the database, documentation is required and the currently registered owner will be contacted to confirm that the pet has been sold / given to the new applicant.

Why is it important to capture the current details of the pet owner?

This will ensure that pets found are re-homed as soon as possible, with the minimal amount to stress for the pet and the owner.

Why is it important to fax completed registration forms to Virbac? (Free fax number – 0800 222 546)

This will ensure that the pet’s details are captured into the database asap. Please note that you are required to also post the forms to Backhome in the self-addressed pre-paid envelope.

Why do i need to attach the bar coded sticker on the registration form?

This ensures that the correct number is captured in the Backhome database.
